Rick L. Goodenbour, 61, of Frederika and formerly of Tripoli, died unexpectedly Friday, August 4, 2017, at Unity Point/Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli on Monday, August 7, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 6th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Rettig Funeral Home in Tripoli and for one hour preceding the services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be made in his name to the Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Rick Lee, son of Cletus and Marlys (Mohlis) Goodenbour was born May 22, 1956, at the Sumner Hospital. He was baptized June 10, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church-Buck Creek rural Sumner, and confirmed April 4, 1971, at Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli. Rick received his education in the Tripoli Schools graduating from Tripoli High School in 1974, and received the Citizenship Award for his class. He worked for Target Distribution Center in Cedar Falls, Paul Niemann Construction in Sumner, and Tripoli Community Schools. He was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he was very active, serving on Church Council and taking care of the lawn maintenance at the Cemetery. Rick was also a volunteer for the Tripoli Fire Department for twenty years and drove ambulance for the Tripoli Ambulance Services. He enjoyed going to car shows with his antique car, spending time with his family, and most recently crafts and paintings which he donated to the Tripoli Nursing Home and Grace Lutheran Church.
Rick is survived by his brother, Mark (Bonnie) Goodenbour of Tripoli, two nephews, Aaron (Angel Kelly) Goodenbour of Tripoli, and Ryan Goodenbour of Tripoli.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.
